Madonna is one of the most popular singers in history. She has released many hit songs which have sold millions of copies and are still being played on radio stations today. Here are ten of my favorite Madonna songs that you should listen to:
1. Holiday
Holiday was released in 1983.
It was the first single from Madonna’s self-titled debut album.
It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming her first top ten hit in the United States and Canada, where it went Platinum. The song spent three weeks atop both the singles and albums charts respectively in Australia, making it her second number one single there as well; however it did not reach pole position there until 1989 (when she had already achieved success with Like a Prayer).
2. Like a Prayer
Released in 1989, this song was written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. The track was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and won two awards at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards: Best Choreography (for her performance) and Best Dance Sequence (for the video).
The lyrics were inspired by an early morning prayer session with her mother. She wanted to write about how young girls should be allowed to grow up without having their hearts broken by men who don’t love them back or care about them as much as they do themselves; hence why she chose this topic for her album title True Blue (1986).
“Like A Prayer” is a song recorded by American singer Madonna from her third studio album True Blue (1986). It was released as the fourth single on February 25th 1987 by Sire Records
3. La Isla Bonita
Madonna’s first #1 single in the U.S., this song became one of her most popular singles, topping charts around the world and selling over 20 million copies worldwide. It was co-written by Stephen Bray, who also co-wrote “Like a Virgin” and “Material Girl” (which both hit #1). Madonna has sold over 300 million records worldwide, making her one of the most successful artists ever to release an album or single on an independent label before signing with Warner Bros.. She’s also been credited with more than 64 million albums sold in the United States alone—making her the best selling female artist there ever will be!
4. Into the Groove
Released: 1985
Written by Madonna and Stephen Bray
Produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray
Chart position: #2
Certified gold by the RIAA (500,000 copies sold)
Certified platinum by the RIAA (1,000,000 copies sold)
Number of weeks on Billboard Hot 100 chart: 28
5. Take a Bow
Take a Bow was released in 1994 and written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. It was produced by Madonna and Babyface and became her first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as topping charts across Europe including France (1), Germany (2), Austria (3) Italy (5). The song’s theme is about a holiday romance between two people who are separated by distance but still feel connected to each other.
Take a Bow also spent three weeks at number three on Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart in April 1995 after its release there; it topped out at number two in Australia ARIA Charts during April 1995 too!
6. I’m Going to Tell You A Secret
The song was released as the first single from her ninth studio album, Ray of Light. It reached number five in the US and number one in the UK. The song also became Madonna’s 21st top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as her fifth consecutive top-ten hit from Ray of Light (after “Music”, “Hung Up” and “American Pie”).
The music video for “I’m Going to Tell You A Secret” was directed by Melina Matsoukas and released on May 1, 2003. In it, Madonna meets with reporter Katie Couric at a party where she appears naked; she sings while dancing around behind a white sheet before revealing herself completely naked onstage with her back turned towards audience members who are watching through peepholes at several different angles throughout each scene sequence throughout this video clip which lasts approximately 4 minutes 20 seconds long here we go:
7. Papa Don’t Preach
Papa Don’t Preach is a song by American singer Madonna from her 1986 album True Blue. The song was written by Richard Stilgoe and Paul Abdul, and produced by Nellee Hooper.
Released as the second single from True Blue in July 1986, it reached number 5 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart and became Madonna’s biggest hit up to that point (after Like A Virgin).
8. Angel
The eighth most popular song by Madonna is Angel, which was released in 1989. The track was written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, who also produced the song with her. She also co-wrote it with Prince, who contributed his vocals to the track as well. The single reached number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and remains one of her best selling singles ever recorded in terms of sales figures globally (over 40 million units sold).
9. Like a Virgin
Like a Virgin was the first number one single for Madonna in the UK. It was written by Madonna, Steve Bray and Pat Leonard, and originally released in 1984 as an album track on her debut album Madonna (debut). The song became a top 10 hit in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand.
10. Ray of Light
Ray of Light was Madonna’s first album to top the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. It also reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and has been certified 9x Platinum in both countries by The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) for sales exceeding 8 million copies worldwide.
The album’s single “Frozen” is Madonna’s biggest hit in the UK, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
Madonna will always be remembered as one of the most popular singers in history
Madonna is one of the most popular singers in history. She has sold over 300 million records worldwide and has had 15 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, making her one of only five artists to have achieved this feat. In addition to her work as an entertainer, Madonna has also been active in various areas of public life including politics (she campaigned for Barack Obama), philanthropy and social activism. She received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 1998 after being inducted into the entertainment industry’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame at its annual induction ceremony held that same year.
Madonna is one of the most successful singers in history, and her song “Like a Virgin” has been played in every decade since it was released. She has also won more awards than any other artist for best female vocalist, as well as being named Billboard’s Woman of the Year three times (in 1987, 1989 and 1990). Her influence on pop music is undeniable; she helped bring back the “girl power” movement that had been missing from mainstream music before her arrival on the scene.
